Resident Field Technician — Owatonna, Minnesota

Road Machinery & Supplies Co. is searching for a Resident Field Technician to join its team in the Owatonna, Minnesota area.  In this role, you will be the service repair contact of RMS for the customers you serve in your geographic area but may also be dispatched to other geographic areas as needed. You will be responsible for a high standard of quick response time to customers and will be required to have a high sense of urgency in prioritizing customer repairs.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Communication between customers and internal RMS departments in order to complete work and grow service labor sales.
  • Utilize various computer programs and OEM software along with RMS resources to complete jobs, utilizing operator manuals, technical drawings, and electrical/hydraulic schematics.
  • Perform troubleshooting and diagnostics to determine what repairs are needed, communicate needs, and make necessary repairs.
  • Test equipment after repair and assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance has been achieved.
  • Maintain company service vehicle, inventory, tools, and equipment adhering to DOT and MSHA compliance.
  • Keep updated with knowledge of RMS and competitor products through vendor, internal, and online training.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Five (5) years of experience as a Field Service Technician for an OEM Heavy Equipment Distributor
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Exceptional skills in hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting, and repair of heavy construction equipment are required.
  • Skilled in operating vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposes.
  • Possess a current valid CDL driver’s license with a clean record, and the ability to successfully pass drug and fitness for duty tests.
  • Able to complete required documentation, reports, and repairs in a timely manner exceeding deadlines while utilizing general computer applications.
  • Demonstrates openness to new procedures, technology, and structure with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.

    • Thorough understanding of order tables and formulas.

  • Strong data management and analytical skills including data query ability and practical experience using Excel. Big data set analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge in selecting tooling attachments, spindle speeds, tool feed rates, work piece securing methods, supports, etc., best suited for nature of operations and size of work piece.
  • Calibrate tool heads to orient tools and workpieces to reference point, while also using care to ensure setting assure travel clearances and avoid tool deflection, which could affect dimensions and finishes.
  • Adjust machines during operations for feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to obtain required finish and dimensional specifications.
  • Use a wide range of precision measuring instruments and devices to set up, operate machine and check work.
  • Work to specific job instructions and providing status of where they are within the repair process.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form in the English language.
  • Responsible for prepping components and fabricated parts into assemblies. This entails paying extreme attention to detail and producing high quality workmanship.
  • Work with management to complete jobs and work orders in a timely manner.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Three (3) years of experience on manual lathe/mill/radial arm drill press and possess basic machinist tools.
  • Familiar with shop tools and equipment such as cranes, forklifts, acetylene torches, and hand tools.
  • Welding experience a plus.

Our continued growth has created the opportunity for our Duluth, MN location to add Field Service Technicians to perform service duties at this location. Resident Field Service Technician – Fort Dodge, IA

RMS is seeking an experienced Construction or Ag Field Service Technician to reside within the ten (10) counties in NE Iowa. In this position, you will work within a close proximity of your residential area and will be equipped with a field service truck. This position will work in conjunction with our Des Moines, Iowa facility and will report to the Des Moines Service Manager.

The ideal candidate will have five (5) years’ experience as a Field Service Technician for an OEM heavy equipment distributor. This position requires exceptional skills in hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting, and repair of heavy construction equipment. RMS desires employees that can build and maintain solid customer relationships, are self-directed, and can demonstrate safe working habits. A strong work ethic along with the ability to work outside in the elements are also required.

In this role, you will be the service repair contact of RMS for the customers you serve in your geographic area, but may also be dispatched to other geographic areas as needed. You will be responsible for a high standard of quick response time to customers, and will be required to have a high sense of urgency in prioritizing customer repairs.

South Dakota Opportunities

Resident Field Technician – South Dakota

Road Machinery & Supplies Co. is searching for a Resident Field Technician to join its team in the Sioux Falls, South Dakota area.  In this role, you will be the service repair contact of RMS for the customers you serve in your geographic area but may also be dispatched to other geographic areas as needed. You will be responsible for a high standard of quick response time to customers and will be required to have a high sense of urgency in prioritizing customer repairs.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Communication between customers and internal RMS departments in order to complete work and grow service labor sales.
  • Utilize various computer programs and OEM software along with RMS resources to complete jobs, utilizing operator manuals, technical drawings, and electrical/hydraulic schematics.
  • Perform troubleshooting and diagnostics to determine what repairs are needed, communicate needs, and make necessary repairs.
  • Test equipment after repair and assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance has been achieved.
  • Maintain company service vehicle, inventory, tools, and equipment adhering to DOT and MSHA compliance.
  • Keep updated with knowledge of RMS and competitor products through vendor, internal, and online training.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Five (5) years of experience as a Field Service Technician for an OEM Heavy Equipment Distributor
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Exceptional skills in hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting, and repair of heavy construction equipment are required.
  • Skilled in operating vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposes.
  • Possess a current valid CDL driver’s license with a clean record, and the ability to successfully pass drug and fitness for duty tests.
  • Able to complete required documentation, reports, and repairs in a timely manner exceeding deadlines while utilizing general computer applications.
  • Demonstrates openness to new procedures, technology, and structure with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule as needed with some overnight travel.
  • Able to work responsibly, safely, and intelligently.
  • Have the desire to take action, improve, and be appreciative.
  • Possess the capability to engage and communicate with customers, co-workers, and vendors in a respectful and professional manner.

Aggregate Equipment Sales Specialist – South Dakota

Road Machinery & Supplies Co. is searching for an Aggregate Equipment Sales Specialist to join its team. In this role, you will be responsible for the sales and rentals of aggregate equipment represented by RMS. The sales territory will include all of South Dakota. Industries served by RMS include Heavy Civil, Highway, Aggregate, Agricultural, Demolition, Recycling, and General Construction.
